Visit us

We welcome visitors to our shop in Harwich, where you will find all the books featured on this Website plus thousands more.

Location: The shop is at 21 Market Street, Harwich, Essex. If coming by car you may find this map of Harwich useful, while pedestrians may find the map on this page more handy.

Arriving by car: Take the A120 to Harwich and follow signs for Navyard. At the extreme end of the peninsula, with the lifeboat station in sight on your left, turn right into King's Head Street. Take the next right into Market Street and you will see the shop immediately on your right. There is free onstreet parking on adjacent streets.

Arriving by rail: Services operate direct from London Liverpool Street (approximately an hourly service, duration 90 minutes) and also from Manningtree, where you can connect from Ipswich, Norwich, and other routes. Be sure to get off the train at Harwich Town, the end of the line, NOT at Harwich International!

The walk to our shop takes less than five minutes. From the station turn left into West Street; immediately right into Wellington Road; immediately left into Church Street; and then right into Market Street.

Arriving by ferry: Take the train from Harwich International Port to Harwich Town (journey time five minutes), then walk to the shop as described above. Or simply take a taxi from the port.

Arriving by air: The most convenient airport is London Stansted. The fastest, but not the cheapest, route to Harwich is to take a taxi to Manningtree or Colchester and then take a train to Harwich as described above. A cheaper method is to take a bus from the airport to Colchester (approximately an hourly service, duration an hour) and then a train to Harwich. We are happy to give more detailed advice to our international visitors if required - just ask.

Staying in Harwich? There is one full-service hotel in Old Harwich, The Pier Hotel, as well as a number of B&Bs and a Premier Travel Inn (budget chain) on the outskirts. The Pier has a well-regarded seafood restaurant; other eating options include the family-run Sign of the Bear restaurant and homemade lunches at The New Bell Inn, all within a very brief walk of our shop (and none of them paying to be mentioned here!).

New academic books at The Book Annex: Our sister shop, The Book Annex, offers thousands of recent academic titles at competitive prices, covering a range of disciplines in the sciences, social sciences and humanities. While this outlet is not normally open to the general public, we can arrange visits for any of our customers who are interested.
